HIIT Workout: What It Is and Why It Works

Fit 'n' Foxy Boxercise

HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, is a technique in which you give all-out effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods.

A high-intensity workout increases the body’s need for oxygen during the effort and creates an oxygen shortage, causing your body to ask for more oxygen during recovery.

Even after you've finished exercising your body has to work hard to clear away the lactic acid in your muscles and replace your bodies oxygen stores this is the reason why intense exercise will help burn more fat and calories than regular aerobic and steady-state workouts.

The HIIT workout lasts only four-to-eight minutes, but is one of the longest four-to-eight minutes you'll encounter.

The structure of the program is: Workout hard for 20 seconds, Rest for 10 seconds. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.
